President Demiryürek Attended TOBB Marmara Region Consultation Meeting
The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Marmara Region Consultation Meeting was held at TOBB Twin Towers, hosted by TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, with the participation of Chamber and Commodity Exchange Presidents in the Marmara Region.
Yalova Chamber of Commerce and Industry (YTSO) Board Chairman Cemil Demiryürek also attended the meeting and expressed the demands and expectations of the Yalova business world.
The meeting discussed the effects of global trade wars on the Turkish economy, economic difficulties experienced in provinces and districts, the general situation of the business world, and sectoral problems and solution suggestions. The participants emphasized that local economies should be strengthened with common sense and cooperation.
One of the most prominent issues in the meeting, chaired by TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, was the difficulties experienced by the real sector in accessing financing. Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that in order for our economy to grow on a stronger and more sustainable basis, access to financing should be facilitated and financing costs should definitely be reduced.
The agricultural frost disaster affecting many regions of the country was also brought up in the speeches. It was emphasized that the major disaster caused serious damage to agricultural production, and it was stated that the disruptions in the field damage assessment efforts victimized the producer. Therefore, attention was drawn to the importance of accurate assessment, timely payment and strong producer support.
Another important topic was the pressure of increasing input costs, especially on labor-intensive sectors. It was stated that many sectors, especially textile and ready-made clothing, were in danger of losing their competitive power in export markets and that special support should be provided for these areas.
The earthquake reality of Turkey was not forgotten at the meeting. It was emphasized that all provinces and districts should be prepared for disasters, and the view that disaster management, resilient infrastructure and awareness efforts should be increased was adopted.
