Private Dormitories and Private Schools Provide Service Under Economically Difficult Conditions.

15.11.2022

University students' dormitory and accommodation issues concern millions of students, and naturally their families. Along with the increasing number of Universities, the number of students increased with each passing day, and the number of private dormitories in the provinces as well as the number of dormitories and beds affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports were also increased.

As of today, approximately 19,000 students continue their education at Yalova University, including the Vocational Schools in our districts. Of this number, 52% are female students and 48% are male students.

20% of registered students prefer distance education or do not come to school for different reasons, while students studying in upper classes stay in rental houses. When we look at the number of newly registered students this year, the number is around 3,000. In other words, the primary number of students looking for dormitories are newly registered students who come to Yalova for the first time.

The capacity of KYK Dormitories affiliated to Youth, Sports and Provincial Directorate in Yalova is 4382 people. Last year, while the capacity of these dormitories was 1826, their capacity was increased. Except for KYK dormitories, 16 private dormitories operate in Yalova, 4 of which are foundation dormitories.

Before the private sector dormitories are opened, they can open their businesses by fulfilling all the conditions required by the Ministry. For example, double rooms are designed and built according to the square meters determined in the legislation. All kinds of fire installations, electrical installations, technological infrastructures were arranged as required by the system and completed at a very high cost.

In Yalova, extra beds and bunk beds have been placed in KYK dormitories to ensure that students stay. Naturally, students demand these dormitories where they are free of charge. We, the representatives of the real sector, are with our practical students, we are not against any investment that will be in their favor, because support is provided to students staying in foundation dormitories, but students staying in private sector dormitories cannot benefit from this support, which creates unfair competition. We believe that supports should be given to cover all dormitories. Currently, the industry is struggling to provide paid services in return for a free service, and is struggling to survive financially.

Moreover, in Private Schools, which are another part of education, they set their prices in September, just like private dormitories, but in today's economic conditions, private schools and private schools that cannot update their prices in the face of very active markets, increases in minimum wages, and incredible increase in electricity and natural gas expenses. dormitories have come to the point of collapse. Let alone making money, they now have to finance their expenses from equity.

While private sector educational institutions and dormitories provide employment at a high rate, they are important institutions for the economy of Yalova with their purchases and subsidiaries, but if no improvement is made in the current conditions, the companies are facing the point of closing.

As I mentioned above, the occupancy rate in Private Dormitories is around 20%, as you know, this does not make a business sustainable. While KYK Dormitories are being opened, the capacities of private dormitories in the province should also be taken into consideration, and it is necessary to work in cooperation.

Providing support to the students staying in Private Dormitories by determining a budget will provide the real sector with some relief in their businesses.

These problems experienced by Private Schools and Private Dormitories need to be resolved urgently, our companies have difficulty in coping with the economic difficulties experienced, the accommodation and education rights of our students and children are always our priority, it is our duty to support them, but by providing a large number of employment and paying their taxes and insurance, Our companies, which are trying to survive by contributing to our city, should also be ensured to survive.
